DIRECTORS’ CUP

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Upon the conclusion of the college baseball and softball seasons, Southern Utah University Athletics finished with the second-highest score among all Big Sky Conference institutions in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings.

Advancing over 30 spots higher than last year’s finish, this improvement is a testament of the continued growth and advancement of Thunderbird Athletics.

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was founded in 1993 to honor institutions which maintain a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men’s and women’s.

Southern Utah University Director of Athletics, Jason Butikofer said, “We are proud of our student-athlete accomplishments in the 2015-16 seasons and our continued blue collar approach to maintaining a broad-based program.”

SUU finished 78th overall and first in the Big Sky following the fall season due to participating in NCAA championships and winning conference championships in both men’s cross country and football.

Butikofer continued, “It is great to see SUU rise in these ranks, and we will use the standings as part of our motivation to further our success.”

An industry leader for more than four decades, Learfield has a deep presence in the college athletics landscape nationwide. Learfield manages the multimedia and sponsorship rights for 120 collegiate institutions, conferences and arenas, and supports athletic departments at all competitive levels as title sponsor of the prestigious Learfield Directors’ Cup.
