DAY 6

#LightTheWorld Day 6 – Jesus Read the Scriptures

Luke 4:16–18

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

I have never been that great at reading the scriptures. It may be because I struggle understanding them when I read, or more likely it’s just because I am a lazy reader. But even on my mission, I preferred reading materials like Preach My Gospel or Jesus the Christ. It’s not that I never read the Book of Mormon and the Bible, I just struggled understanding what I was reading.

Anyways, the “Light the World” initiative for today has given our family some inspiration and motivation to be more diligent students of the gospel.

  • I shared my favorite scripture, Alma 26:12, and this blog post on social media.

12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

  • Summer shared her favorite scripture, 2 Timothy 1:7, on Facebook.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  • As a family, we always read out of “Book of Mormon Stories” with Avery and Reese. This book has been an invaluable resource for us because it has helped us teach the girls lessons from the Book of Mormon. The illustrations and brevity of each chapter really keep the girls’ attention.
