Love and Hope Prevail

In Portugal’s land, a nation’s heart did stir,
A Carnation Revolution, a message to confer.
Amidst Lisbon’s cobblestone streets’ grandeur,
A momentous tale of courage, hope, and fervor.

April blooms, nineteen seventy-four,
When people yearned for freedom’s open door,
Carnation buds in barrels, weapons set aside,
With flowers, they declared, no more to hide.

Beneath Lisbon’s sun, the soldiers stood,
With gentle petals, not one gunshot would,
The power of the people, a nation’s voice,
Their peaceful protest, their fervent choice.

Salazar’s shadow cast aside and gone,
A dictator’s reign, a new era to dawn,
Carnation-scented winds of change did blow,
As liberty and democracy began to grow.

The world watched as history rewrote its page,
In Portugal’s heart, a new and hopeful age,
Carnation Revolution, an epic tale,
Of how love and hope can surely prevail.

From Lisbon’s streets to distant shores, they sung,
Of freedom’s tune and rights for everyone,
The Carnation Revolution, a timeless decree,
That freedom and peace shall forever be.
